Using oak barrels to create good wine isn’t purely aesthetic. Wine making in oak barrels has been an art form that has inspired vintners worldwide for centuries. The oak imparts unique subtleties as the wine ages including flavors of dried fruit, vanilla and coconut aromas. In addition, oak barrels impart tannins to the wine and add complexity. So for Oak Steed I wanted to honor and celebrate this very important part of the wine making process. But sometimes adding a wooden texture in packaging design can feel dark, heavy and dated. We wanted the wine branding and the wood texturing to come alive in a new and modern way. The objective was to create a wine label that would not only honor the story of the oak but appeal to wine shoppers and jump off the shelf at wine retailers.
